Keeping on top of your website

Once your website has gone live, it can be easy to leave it and not make many changes to it. This is especially true for business that do not sell products or services that change. You may feel that you have everything you need on your site and don’t want to add information that is not really required, but leaving your site to go stale can be dangerous.

Not making changes to your site may mean you are missing out on technical advances within your industry that you should be including in your site such as online calculators but you can also finding yourself moving down the search engine rankings at a fast pace.

Recovering from a loss in rankings can be tricky and can take a lot of time, meanwhile you could be missing out on a large any of potential customers.

You need to think of ways you can update your site regularly whilst not complicating the main pages. Often people add a news and events section or a blog to allow them to add fresh content on a daily or weekly basis. The more often you update your site the more the search engines will revisit it. Make sure any content you do add is unique and relevant.

What can a PR agency do for you?

You may have heard the term PR agency before but not know exactly what it is. A PR agency is a Public Relations agency and their role is to analyse your business and find out about the products and services you offer. From this information they can then help promote your business across a number of different platforms such as social media, newspapers, TV and radio. You can often ask a PR agency to focus on one particular marketing avenue or you can get them involved in all of your marketing.
Although PR companies do not come cheap their influence and advice can be vital to a business looking to promote themselves to increase their visibility, reputation and in turn sales. A good PR company will eventually pay for itself. You may need to invest a bit to start with but over time you should start to see a good return on your investment.
If you have a website then you may get a PR company to help write the content to go on it. Ideally you want to use an PR agency that understands Search Engine Optimisation and can write content in such a way that it is not only what the visitors want to read but also what the search engines are looking for.

Making your ad campaigns stand out

There is often so much jargon in marketing it can be easy to become overwhelmed and feel like you don’t really know what you are doing. Often many of the terms you hear about, mean the same thing which can be confusing.
As the marketing world is becoming so much more competitive, it is important that your marketing campaigns stand out otherwise you will find you get little or no response from them. If you are looking at doing some offline marketing and have a new product or service you want to shout about then you may want to get out on to the streets to do so. You need to make sure that you are engaging people and that you have the right people in the job. It may be that you give away free samples of your product or do demonstrations which is proven to increase sales.
Online marketing is made up of a number of different areas. Social media is becoming more prevalent and many businesses are taking advantage of the marketing opportunities it can offer. If you don’t mind spending a bit of money then the paid for ads work wonders for some businesses. If you are happy to put a bit of time in to it, then you can build up a community of follower’s yourself by promotions, offers and sharing information that is interesting and useful.

What is a call to action?

A call to action is a sentence or button that are usually displayed throughout websites to entice the viewer to complete an action. This may be to call the business, to make a purchase or to fill out a form for example. In order to improve your conversions and return on investments, you need to always have solid call to actions on your online marketing campaigns. The call to action may not always be about making a sale there and then, it may be a bit more subtle and lead them through your website in a certain way. Often people just put a click here to find out more link at the end of a statement or a video but this may not be the best call to action to use. You need to give people a reason why they should engage and then motivate them more to do so. You need to be telling people why they should. It may be that you have an offer on for a limited time, so rather than just stating click to add to your basket, you may put click here to buy saving you 20% for a limited time only. This gives the viewer more reasons to follow the call to actions.

Do you need to step up your online marketing?

If you have a website for your business and want it to be successful then you need to be doing a certain amount of online marketing. This can be done in a number of ways such as through search engine optimisation to increase your rankings on the search engine results pages, through paid for advertising such as Google Adwords or via social media marketing for example. The first thing you need to do is check the traffic to your website. Try and get an idea of what type of traffic you have every week/month and where it is coming from i.e referrals from other sites or social media or organic through the search engines. You should also have a look for any trends such as times of the day or days of the week when your site seems to be busier. Next, have a look at your rankings, you may wish to use third party software to try and get an accurate result as to where you are ranking for different keywords. From this base analysis, you can then see if and where you can improve your marketing. You may decide to push a certain channel to increase traffic via social media or you may opt to focus on a few keywords to improve your viability on the search engines.
